The UAE Fatwa Council has invited all Muslims across the country to participate in the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025 (Ramadan 29, 1446 AH). This marks a crucial step in confirming the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eidul Fitr, a major Islamic celebration that follows a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
In its official statement, the council urged anyone who sights the crescent—whether with the naked eye or using binoculars—to immediately report their findings to the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee. This committee, responsible for verifying the crescent's appearance, will convene after Maghrib (sunset) prayers on Saturday evening to review the reports and formally announce the start of Eidul Fitr based on the moon's visibility.
In addition, the Saudi Supreme Court has also announced that moon sighting for Eidul Fitr will take place on the same evening. Muslims in Saudi Arabia have been called upon to observe the crescent and report their sightings to the appropriate authorities.
The moon sighting is a significant event in the Islamic calendar, as it determines the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eidul Fitr, an occasion marked by prayers, family gatherings, and acts of charity.
