The federal government has announced a slight reduction in petrol prices, lowering the cost by Re1 per litre for the next two weeks. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) remains unchanged.
In a notification issued by the finance division, it was stated that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had calculated the revised petroleum prices based on fluctuations in the international market.
As per the latest update, the price of petrol (motor spirit) has been reduced from Rs255.63 per litre to Rs254.63 per litre. However, HSD will continue to be sold at its previous rate of Rs258.64 per litre.
Just two weeks earlier, on March 15, the government had decided to keep petroleum prices steady for a fortnight. During that period, HSD was priced at Rs258.64 per litre, petrol at Rs255.63 per litre, kerosene oil at Rs168.12 per litre, and light diesel oil at Rs153.34 per litre.
The latest price adjustment follows a decision by the Prime Minister’s Office to maintain stability in petroleum prices. Despite OGRA and the petroleum division suggesting a potential hike of up to Rs13 per litre, the government chose to offset the financial impact by managing electricity tariffs instead.
