YouTuber Rajab Butt apologizes from Masjid-e-Haram in Makkah after facing accusations under Pakistan’s blasphemy law. Learn more about his heartfelt plea and the controversy surrounding his "295" perfume brand.
Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt, who has recently come under fire for launching a controversial perfume brand called "295," has issued a public apology while performing Umrah in Makkah. In a video recorded inside the sacred Masjid-e-Haram, Butt clarified his earlier statements, sought forgiveness, and vowed his continued devotion to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Butt, who boasts one of Pakistan’s largest online followings, faced backlash when his perfume brand’s name was perceived as a reference to Section 295 of Pakistan's blasphemy law, sparking religious controversy. This led to a First Information Report (FIR) being filed against him under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with offenses related to insulting religious beliefs.
In his Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Butt recited the Darood Sharif and the Islamic declaration of faith, emotionally pledging that his life, family, and everything he owns are dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He urged his audience to reconsider their anger, asking them to "cleanse your hearts" toward him. Butt also firmly stated that he had no malicious intent and that parts of his previous video were edited out of context, which led to misunderstandings.
Addressing religious scholars, the Punjab government, and the Pakistan Army, Butt appealed for reconsideration of the charges against him, advocating for justice and understanding. He defended himself by emphasizing that the controversial video about Section 295 was misinterpreted due to the omission of the word "false," which triggered a fatwa against him.
Rajab Butt ended his apology by expressing deep regret to Allah, His Messenger, and the global Muslim community, stating that he never intended to cause any harm. He also announced that his "295" perfume line would be discontinued immediately.
This isn’t the first time Rajab Butt has been involved in controversy. From previous scandals involving his treatment of animals to now, his apology video stands as an effort to resolve this latest issue, with his future hanging in the balance as he faces potential legal repercussions, including up to 10 years in prison.
