Pakistan Train Hijack LIVE: BLA Militants Attack Jaffar Express, Kill 20 Security Personnel, Take 182 Hostage
In a significant escalation of separatist violence, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants hijacked the Quetta-Peshawar Jaffar Express on Tuesday, killing 20 security personnel and taking 182 people hostage.
The attack took place in Balochistan's Bolan district, where nearly 450 passengers, including women and children, were initially held captive. However, the militants later released civilians while detaining 182 individuals, including military personnel.
In an official statement, the BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that their fighters had blown up a section of the railway track in Mashkaf, Dhadar, Bolan, forcing the train to stop. "The Baloch Liberation Army has carried out a meticulously planned operation, taking control of the train and holding all passengers hostage," the group declared.
Reports indicate that a train driver sustained injuries during the attack. The train was en route from Quetta to Peshawar when it came under heavy fire. Security forces and rescue teams have since launched an operation in the area to track down the attackers.
Despite the military’s response, the BLA claimed to have successfully repelled a ground assault by Pakistani forces, forcing troops to retreat. The group further warned of executing all hostages if airstrikes continued in the region.
